Let’s be honest, we don’t really need an excuse for a party with our friends and family but should you need a reason to get everyone together then surely your engagement is it? It’s the start of a new chapter, it’s a super special moment and it deserves to be celebrated.

So, gather your nearest and dearest together and host a brilliant bash that’s a mere taster of what’s to come at your wedding! Here are some great ideas for your party and, inspired by your stunning new engagement ring, they’ve all got a gemstone theme because we all know that love rocks…

One of the most important things to get right when you’re planning any party is to ensure that guests are well fed and well watered (apparently everyone should have a drink within a minute of arriving!) so this is definitely an area that needs your attention. A gem themed buffet table will look amazing and, once it’s full of fantastic treats, your guests won’t be able to keep away and you won’t be stuck in the kitchen! Stone shaped cookies or truffles in pretty colours, savoury ‘engagement ring’ bagels (complete with ‘stone’ toppers!) and of course, doughnuts with gemstone paper picks are definite must-haves.

Obviously anything that sparkles is going to be good choice for drinks but don’t forget jewel-toned juices and cocktails. Drink stirrers topped with fake gems or stone shaped cut-outs are also a great idea and you can find lots of templates online for making your own if you fancy a little DIY and if you can find some jewel coloured glasses, so much the better.

Decorating is of course a great way to get everyone in the mood. Brightly coloured, large-scale geometric shapes transform any space and again, look online for decorative templates. You can make photo props, piñatas, banners and garlands in any colour you like! Of course, there’s also lots available to buy online so if you want your party to be as simple as possible, you can certainly purchase all you need.

Your engagement party can be a great time to practice your wedding planning skills so definitely write a guest list and send out ‘proper’ invitations. We’re all so used to texting and arranging our lives via social media that something sent in the post always gets everyone’s attention (and gets the anticipation building early!). Stay on theme with gemstone themed stationery, appropriate quotes and lots of fabulous colours.

Gemstone inspired weddings have been big news for a while so you’re sure to be able to pick up lots of products and find plenty of printables and templates online for your party. This is a great opportunity to find out whether you enjoy crafting and making before you commit to doing things for your wedding. Coasters, cake toppers and small items are perfect if you’re easing yourself into crafting and they’re also really effective. Three dimensional shapes and garlands are more complicated but online tutorials make even the toughest project easier.

Don’t forget to be the hostess with the mostess and send all your guests home happy at the end of the night. Little gifts or favours are love treats – how about filling gem shaped boxes with sweets for your lucky guests to take as they leave? If you throw a fantastic engagement party, you can be sure that everyone won’t be able to wait for your wedding!
